Julius Motte Bacot papers, 1883-1889.

Papers consist of diaries, documents pertaining to the Carolina Gun Club, and other items. Three diaries (1883-1886) include comments on bachelor life in Charleston (S.C.), Bacot's daily routine, the weather, funerals of family members, Charleston ladies and social events, organizations, legal and family matters, and the Charleston earthquake (1886). Documents (1887-1889) pertaining to the Carolina Gun Club consist of a title to real estate and an abstract of title, petitions, receipts, an abstract of minutes, letters, mortgages, and a bill renewing the Club's charter. Other items include a notebook containing clippings of Bacot's letters to the editor (News & Courier) about a ferry wharf on Sullivan's Island where Bacot took a fall; notebook also contains handwritten copies of legal forms.
